The Most Recent School Shooting
Three victims were taken to the hospital, and one victim suffered minor injuries in the incident at the high school. This is how the events allegedly evolved, according to police reports:
- A fight broke out before the shooting: A call was received at the Arlington police at 9:15 a.m. local time advising that there was a shooting on the second floor of the high school. According to police, a fight took place in a classroom just before a teenager opened fire. Police said the shooting was not a “random attack” on the school, but very specific to this fighting incident.
- The suspect is in custody: The shooting suspect was taken into custody and police say the suspect is an 18-year-old male. The suspect had earlier left the school in a vehicle after the shooting, but a quick police response led to his arrest, and he was taken into custody. The teenager is being charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
- The victims are recovering: According to police, one victim, a male student, was taken to the hospital where he had surgery but has since been discharged. Another victim, an adult male, was also taken to the hospital, and even though not in surgery, his condition was described as in a “good position.” A third victim who was also injured and taken into the same hospital is expected to be released from the hospital soon.
- Police warned about additional threats to schools on social media: Citing Arlington police, the news reported that local law enforcement has been seeing “a lot of social media comments about threats to our schools from young kids.” The Arlington police pleaded with the community to try and help in identifying and reporting any threats, but they also added that they will investigate the known threats along with federal authorities.
